What Are We Doing On This Earth? (Part 7)

If we lose sight of the heaven-point-of-view, we will miss the point of what we are really doing here on earth as human beings. In the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, the rich man lived recklessly. He cared not for how God wanted him to live. He mocked the laws and detested the prophets. He partied all day and was involved in all vices that money can buy. At the end of the day, his time was up and he died. When he arrived in hell and saw Lazarus at the bosom of Abraham, he remembered the word of God. He remembered all that Moses and the prophets had written. He remembered that they were ignored during his life on earth. He then told Abraham to send Lazarus back from the dead to go and warn his brothers so that they may not end up in hell like him. For a sinner to begin to think of the salvation of his brothers is a remarkable change of attitude. It shows that the rich man now realized that what we are really doing on earth is to qualify for true worshippers and not to pursue earthly pleasures and acquire earthly wealth. We are here to lay up treasures in heaven and not to amass wealth on earth. (Matt. 6:19-21) We are here to please God and not to please the world (1 John 2:15-17) We are here to worship God in spirit and in truth and not to worship Mammon. (Matt 6:24) If we live our life on earth with heaven-consciousness, we will make our choices differently.
