Moses was now ready to go. After he had experience God’s anger, he knew he dared not say anything to the contrary again. God said now that you are ready to go, there is one more thing I will show you. This is the secret of doing signs. I already taught you how to do three signs but with this secret, you will be able to do many signs and wonders.
“And thou shalt take the rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs” (Exo. 4:17).
God showed Moses the secret of success in ministry when he saw Moses’ readiness to go. Even though, he was reluctant, but now he is ready to go. Many want to know everything God has to say before they make up their minds to obey the call. It does not work like that. God needs to see your readiness to go before he can show you those deep things you need to know to make a success in ministry. You could have been doing the ministry half heartedly for a long time, but until you are fully ready and sold out to God; some revelations will not come to you. There are some doors that will not open. Some directions would not be given to you. God will not give you the full message until you are fully ready to go with the message.
For example, you could have been faithful in an area of ministry until such a time that God had proven and approved you, and suddenly, a door opens. From this time, you may now begin to make tremendous impacts and your life and ministry transforms. Sometimes, people around you may will ask: “where have you been all these time?” You have been busy knowing God!
When God saw the readiness of Moses, God revealed to him, the secret of doing signs. God told him: The secret is in this rod in your hand. It is no longer an ordinary rod. Take it with you and use it to do signs.
Any minister of God that desires to see signs and wonders need to know this secret. The secret is in the rod. The rod stands for the word of God. The secret of doing signs is in the word. With the word in our hands, we can do signs. God created the world through the instrumentality of the word. “Through faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God …” (Heb. 11:3).
The word of God is still the instrumentality for miracles, signs and wonders. You shall take the word of God in your hands; with it you shall do signs. There are no shortcuts to miracles that are of God. It is the rod of God. The more worded you are, the more signs and wonders flow through you. Fasting and prayers are also very necessary in firing up the anointing but prayers not based on the word of God are mere rhetoric. The word or the rod is the secret in signs and wonders production.
Just like God ‘gave’ the rod to Moses, Jesus said in John 17:6 “For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me…” When Jesus was coming to the earth, God gave him the words for the mission. Even though Jesus is the word himself, he said; “The words which thou gavest me”. God gave him the words. When Jesus was rounding up his ministry on earth, he handed over the words he received from the father to the disciples so that they could continue the work. John 17:22 says: “And the glory which thou gavest me, I have given them…” Everything God equipped Jesus with for his earthly mission, he handed over to the church. That is why he said in Mark 16:17 “And these signs shall follow them that believe…..” Signs follow the believer in Christ.
All the signs and wonders in the life of Christ and even greater than those signs follow a believer. As they went about, preaching the word, God was working with them and confirming the word with signs and wonders following.
